I had hoped I would have this calendar ready for you on the 1st, but days full of boxes and memories tugged hard at me last week. By Friday I was walking around in a bit of a fog. Some relief came Saturday when I packed the last of the boxes to be shipped home.
Slides of my mother and grandparents on vacation in the Redwood Forest along with other treasures, both new and familiar, are traveling home ahead of me. I'm not sure when I'll feel ready to open them up again, but if I've learned anything at all in these past few years, it's to trust that the time will come when it should. I need only wait and listen.
The quote I chose for July's calendar feels especially apt to me today. Dinesen's words ring truer to me than most, and right now these words really sing to me. Yesterday I put my feet in the sea and, in an instant, felt the calm that waves can bring. It was a much needed redirection.
For the collaborative calendar this month I asked Shari Altman, someone I admire greatly, to join me. Shari's words and images are thoughtful, engaging. They share a kindness that, to me, is bright, real, and important. I hope you'll pay her a visit.
I'm off to be with family and celebrate my birthday. I'm sort of dreaming of strawberry pie and of the wish I'll make today - it's a big one. Have a happy 4th, friends!
